KATHUA, Sept 29: A major tragedy was averted when a live mortar was found lying in a field at village Karole Mathura of Hiranagar after a farmer Amit Verma suddenly sighted it and he had a narrow escape as he had to pass from the place where it was lying.
Amit Varma S/o Madhu Ram, resident of Karole visited his field near the International Border of Hiranagar Sector and found the live mortar lying in the field at this side of the fencing.
He immediately reported the matter to Police Post Chakra, Hiranagar. A police team reached on the spot and kept it on safe place. The farmer said that during the Pakistani firing in recent days some mortars were targeted by Pakistani Rangers on Indian side. This mortor has not blasted and was found live.
