Listening to public grievances

I t is in tune with the need of according importance to listening to public grievances that a periodic review and even revamping of the system should keep on undergoing changes for deriving better results in public grievances redressing mechanism. Fixing time slots by senior officers in the administration as directed by higher authorities, to hear public grievances either in person or through phone or video-conferencing is a commendable idea provided the same was acted upon seriously. Since on account of COVID -19 pandemic which the administration is battling with, due focus on this vital public and administrative interaction got affected which needs to be re-started. Not only that , the system needs to be more comprehensive in vital aspects like sharing the important phone numbers with the public repeatedly through known modes of communication so that the aggrieved ones could take the opportunity to convey their difficulties or problems faced by them from the administrative apparatus to resolve the same otherwise in routine. While developmental activities are going on, public utility and benefits oriented schemes are launched and implemented, whether the same reached the targeted people or not and what difficulties were encountered by some people in Government offices are generally the grievances. Any Government can claim to be successful in imparting good governance only where redressing public grievances occupy the top slot of priorities of the Government.
