SRINAGAR : Fresh Western Disturbance (WD) has hit this region resulting in the possibility of light, moderate to widespread during the next 72 hours in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the mercury remained above normal in the valley during the past 24 hours.
A Met department spokesman said this afternoon that there could be light to moderate rain or thundershowers at scattered places over the state during the next 24 hours.
However, during the subsequent four days, there could be scattered to farily widespread rain during the next 48 hours. After recording yet another above normal minimum temperature, people woke up to a cloudy morning though sun appeared for a brief period in the valley.
The spokesman said the minimum temperature in Srinagar, was 13.2 degrees Celcius, three notches above normal. The maximum temperature yesterday was 26.5 degrees, three notches above normal.
There is a possibility of rain or thundershowers due to which the mercury will drop in the city, where people are busy repairing, reconstruction and renovating their houses and shops damaged in devastating flood in September last year. Maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 22 degrees and 10 degrees respectively in the city during the next 24 hours, he said.
Mercury also went up in the world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, where hundreds of tourists are arriving daily from different parts of the country. He said against yesterday’s 6.8 degrees, it was 8.2 degrees, five notches above normal.
At famed health resort of Pahalgam, the minimum temperature was 6.5 degrees, half a notch above normal. He said at gateway of Kashmir, Qazigund the minimum temperature was 10 degrees, Kokernag 11.5 degrees and Kupwara 9.8 degrees.
However, there was drop in the minimum temperature at Kargil where it was 5.3 degrees against yesterday’s 9.9 degrees while at Leh recorded 10.7 degree against 9 degree yesterday.
He said the sky would be generally cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 degrees and 7 degrees respectively at Leh. The spokesman said there is possibility of rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum would be around 35 degrees and 22 degree respectively at Jammu during the next 24 hours. (AGENCIES)
