Life-imprisonment to Army jawan for killing wife

JAMMU, Oct 16: 1st Additional Sessions Judge Jammu, Y P Bourney today awarded life-imprisonment and fine of Rs 25000 to Army jawan for killing his wife.
After hearing APP Harpal Singh for the State whereas Advocate Rajesh Tingloo for the accused, Ist Additional Sessions Judge observed, “the crime has been committed in a most barbaric and ghastly manner but it was not preplanned or premeditated as it was preceded by a quarrel with the deceased over some minor issue”.
“The offender is young man of early forties who at the time of commission of crime was serving in Army and has no previous criminal record. There is also nothing on record to suggest that the offender would be a menace to the society and cannot be rehabilitated and reformed into a useful citizen”, the Court said, adding “in the given circumstances, instant case does not fall within the category of rarest of rare case as to warrant the imposition of extreme penalty”.
With these observations, the Court awarded life imprisonment to Army jawan and also fine of Rs 25000.
