RAJOURI, Aug 13: Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri Jaffer Hussain Beigh today awarded rigorous life imprisonment to one Sunnit Singh, who had murdered his neighbour Abdul Gano on April 30, 2009 over old enmity.
After hearing Public Prosecutor Shaheen Ahmed Khan for the UT whereas Advocate Inderjeet Sharma for the accused person, the Judge observed, “circumstance and the manner of committing the crime should be such that it pricks the judicial conscience of the court to the extent that the only and inevitable conclusion should be awarding of death penalty which in my opinion does not arise in the instant case though the act of the accused for committing murder of the deceased by amputating his head from the body was barbaric”.
“I find that the case does not fall within the category of rarest of rare case. I, accordingly, sentence the accused Sunnit Singh to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and also to pay a fine of Rs 15,000 for the commission of offence under Section 302 RPC and in default of payment of fine he shall further undergo imprisonment of like nature for two years”, the Judge said.
