Licenses distributed to 102 new entrants to legal profession

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: State Judicial Academy today organized oath taking ceremony and a function for distribution of Advocates’ licenses to new entrants to the legal profession.
The function was presided over by Justice Hasnain Masoodi, Member Committee, State Judicial Academy. Before delivery of enrolment certificates  (Advocate Licences) to  102 Advocates of Kashmir province, they  were administered oath by Justice Masoodi.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Masoodi enlightened the advocates about the ethics and conduct governing the profession and said that Advocacy is a divine job unlike any other profession. He emphasized that the lawyer must be true to his profession and apart from pleading the case of his client as an officer of the court, his job is to assist at arriving at a just conclusion.
“As an officer of the court, the lawyers owe a duty towards the quest for truth and justice which are much higher principles than earning money and in this way they can ensure the stability and progress of the society of which we all are part of”, he said, adding “as an Advocate, there are certain duties and responsibilities cast upon them by the statute as to the manner in which they should conduct themselves as a professional”.
In his concluding remarks, Director, State Judicial Academy, Pawan Dev Kotwal said that the words of wisdom and ideas advised by Justice Masoodi would go a long way in helping advocates to observe the code of conduct governing the legal profession and they can contribute their lot to the institution.
