LIC employees observe lunch-hour strike

JAMMU, Mar 28: LIC Class-I officers under the banner of the Federation of LIC Class- I Officers’ Associations and LIC employees under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association observed one hour strike today in all offices of LIC in across the State during lunch hour as a part of nationwide strike program.
Narinder Sharma, secretary Class-1 Federation and  Pawan Gupta, Divisional Secretary  NZIEA Srinagar division were leading the protest. The strike at Srinagar was led by president NZIEA AM Tantray, Muzzafer,  Javed Ahmad Bukhari  and others. The leaders while speaking at DO Cell Jammu said that the strike was called to lodge strong protest against the Government’s policy of denial and the inability of LIC to honour its commitments.   The strike has been observed in support of  common demands of the LIC employees.
The main demands are- immediate commencement of wage revision, a final pension option for those who could not opt earlier,  five day week in LIC of India,  recruitment in Class -III & IV cadres and  modification in promotion policy and withdrawal of circular 368, which is even against the principles of natural justice.
The National Federation of Field Workers’ of India have extended the support and solidarity to the strike and other agitational program. The wage revision fell due on 1.8.2017.  The Unions submitted its  charter  demanding upward revision of wages on the basis of the massive increase in productivity and the enormous paying capacity of the institution.
“The LIC continues to dominate the market garnering over 72 percent of the new premiums.  The LIC has set very high servicing standards.  The achievements of LIC are the results of the dedication and commitment of its workforce.  It is a matter of regret that even after 6 months since the wage revision fell due no efforts are made to initiate the process of discussions leave alone the settlement of the demand,” a Union leader said.
Others who spoke included Ravi Pandita, president Class-1 Officers Federation, Romesh Chand, joint secretary NZIEA,  Vijay Khajuria, Rajesh Gupta, Raj Kumar, Dinesh Sharma, Preet Suri and Sarla Dhar. Complete strike was observed at Kathua, Samba, RS Pura, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Katra, Sunderbani, Bilawar and Kishtwar.
