LG pays tribute to Gen Zorawar Singh on his birth anniversary

JAMMU, Apr 13: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today paid tribute to great warrior and military strategist General Zorawar Singh on his birth anniversary.

The LG laid wreath at the statue of General Zorawar Singh at a commemorative event organized by J&K ex-Services League at Gen Zorawar Chowk, Bahu Plaza (Jammu). Speaking on the occasion, the LG said that General Zorawar Singh was a true national hero and he will remain a source of inspiration for the people across the country. “The unparalleled courage, valour and dedication of one of the greatest military commanders of the world will continue to inspire the generations,” the LG added.
RR Swain (DGP J&K), Anand Jain (ADGP), Maj Gen Gaurav Gautam (GOC 26 Infantry Division), Brig Gautam Segan (Deputy GOC, 26 Infantry Division), Lt Gen RK Sharma (retired), president of J&K ex-Services League, Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak (president, Dogra Sadar Sabha) and Col Sukhbir Mankotia & his team from Akhil Bhartiya Sainik Seva Parishad were special guests on the occasion.
Earlier, a ceremonial Guard of the Army (19 JAK RIF) presented tribute with full military honours to Gen Zorawar Singh. Col Paramjit Singh the ‘Master of Ceremony ‘ recounted the ‘Tale of Valour ‘ of Gen Zorawar Singh.
The function was also attended by numerous Army soldiers, Veterans, NCC Cadets, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Students from Dogra College of Education, students of FPS and many others.
Lt Gen RK Sharma while speaking to media said that General Zorawar Singh was one of the most outstanding Generals of India. “He was a master of mountain and manoeuvre warfare, great tactical genius and visionary. He was also a great administrator and planner,” he added.
He appealed to the LG that history of J&K should be a separate chapter included in the school syllabus and also rename JDA park at Zorawar Chowk as Gen Zorawar park. He further urged to rename Chhanni Himmat as Zorawar Nagar as a befitting tribute to Gen Zorawar Singh.
