LEH, Apr 4: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur chaired a meeting attended by his Advisor, Umang Narula; IG Police, Ladakh S S Khandre and Commissioner/ Secretary Health, Rigzin Samphel to discuss the measures being taken to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Ladakh.
With a total of 9 positive cases being cured and tested negative in Ladakh, the Lt Governor appreciated the people of Ladakh for exhibiting exemplary resolve and cooperation in observing the lockdown. He reposed his confidence that the collaborative efforts of Health Department, volunteers, religious and social organisations will help Ladakh win the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taking a serious note of the recent report of COVID positive case in Sanjak village in Kargil, the Lt Governor emphasized on further intensifying the efforts and precautionary measures to contain the outbreak of COVID-19. He asked the Administration and Police Department to be extra vigilant in combating the pandemic. He also enquired about the supply of essential commodities to the public. He stressed on the maintenance of a strict discipline in ensuring social distancing during its distribution.
Commissioner/ Secretary Health, who is on a visit to Kargil and participated in the meeting through video conference from there, apprised the Lt Governor about Sanjak, Hagnis, Chiktan and Samrah villages being brought under containment zone to stop transmission due to COVID-19. He added that ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers and ANMs have been put on duty to conduct active house to house surveillance on a daily basis to identify persons with symptoms of novel coronavirus in the zone.
Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Leh and Kargil Districts were also present during the meeting.
