LeT militant killed in Baramulla

Srinagar, May 6: A Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Baramulla district today.
A police spokesman said that acting on a specific input regarding the presence of militant in Karhama, Kunzer area of Baramulla, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (2nd RR) and CRPF (176 Bn) in the area.
“During the search operation, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” he said. Click here to watch video
In the ensuing encounter, a local militant of LeT was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter. He has been identified as Abid Wani son of Mohammad Rafiq Wani, resident of Yarhol Babapora Kulgam.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-47 rifle was recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” the spokesman said.
A Defence spokesman said it is assessed that his plan was to carry out attack on Srinagar-Gulmarg road.
