Leopard rescued by Wildlife Deptt in Kalakote

RAJOURI, July 11: A sub-adult female leopard was safely rescued by the team of Wildlife Protection Department from Simbal Gai village in Metka, Kalakote, after locals spotted it near a maize field close to residential homes.
Immediately after receiving information about the wild animal, DFO Wildlife Warden Rajouri-Poonch, Nadeem Iqbal Mirza deputed a team led by Range Officer Iftikhar H Khan.
The team comprising officials from both Rajouri and Nowshera Control Rooms rushed to the site and successfully tranquilized the leopard without any incident.
A Wildlife Department official said the animal was sitting calmly but alert near human habitation, posing a risk to both villagers and itself.
He said the rescue was conducted efficiently, with support from frontline staff, ensuring no harm to the animal or public.
Meanwhile, the department has urged the locals to immediately inform the wildlife authorities in case of such sightings and not to approach wild animals on their own.
