Leh observes complete shutdown for stringent punishment to culprit

LEH, Oct 28: Leh observed a complete shutdown as All Ladakh Student Association, supported by Youth wings of various religious organisations including Ladakh Buddhist Association, Anuman Moin-Ul-Islam, Anjuman Imamiya and Merchant Associations Leh, held a protest rally, here today demanding early justice to the student victim.
The procession rally, which commenced from Leh Gate to Main Market, was held for seeking stringent punishment to the culprit who committed sodomy and was arrested on Wednesday. The rally was attended by Hill Council Chairman Gyal P Wangyal, MP Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, LBA President PT Kunzang, political heads, students and public in large number.
All the business establishments in Leh District observed shut down for whole day to seek early justice for the victims in the alleged sodomy case, registered against 29 year old accused Muzafar Ali, resident of Chushot and booked under section 5(M)/6 of JK POCSO 377/RPC.
Hill Council Chairman Gyal P Wangyal, in his speech, sought stringent punishment to the culprit to teach a lesson. He said that children are the future of Ladakh and if such cases happen with student then how can the new UT Ladakh will develop and prosper in future.
Member of Parliament Jamyang Tsering Namgyal demanded early justice to the victim student and added that there should be no political and religious influence to suppress the case.
Other speakers, including LBA Youth Wing President Konchok Ishey, Anjuman Moin-Ul-Islam Youth Wing President Advocate Ramzan Khan and student representatives strongly condemned the incident and charged the law enforcing agencies with failure to curb the growing cases in Leh.
SOUL President Rigzin Dorjay said that such cases are happening repeatedly for the past few years. He also alleged that political leaders and administration take the students issues very lightly.
SOUL Vice President Ibtesum Iqbal said that due to leniency against the accused, such culprit dare to do such things repeatedly.
