Leh NH re-opens

SRINAGAR, Nov 17: After three days of massive snow clearance operation, the Border Roads Organization (BRO) today cleared snow from Srinagar-Leh National Highway in Zojila area.
The BRO men and machinery fighting tough weather conditions and multiple avalanches cleared the highway this evening. Six vehicles carrying police men for Panchayat election duty managed to reach Kargil after taking over six hours to cross the Zojila stretch of the highway.
Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police (Rural) Kashmir, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, said that stranded traffic at Gumri and other places on Kargil side will be allowed to ply tomorrow. He said that around 100 vehicles are stranded.
Shah said that after clearance of stranded vehicles, preference will be given to police vehicles, which are stranded at Gund. He said that they are carrying police men for poll duty.
The highway was closed early this week after heavy snowfall in Zojila stretch.
