LEH, Aug 9: In a major setback to National Conference (NC) in Ladakh region its entire unit in Leh joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today giving a shot in its arm in the Himalayan region. As many as 66 NC party workers including sitting councilor, P.Wangdan Shunu, Women Wing president and Youth Wing President of NC joined BJP during a simple function held at party office here under the leadership of UT president of BJP and MP, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, MP Namgyal termed it a historic day for Ladakh and BJP when entire NC Unit of Leh joined the party. He said with this the NC has been completely wiped out from Leh. He said earlier the entire Congress and NC Units of Nobra joined the BJP and prior to it Zanskar Unit of the NC also joined BJP.
He said BJP is committed to work for the betterment of people of Ladakh and development of the region. He said all promises made by the Modi Government at Centre with the people of Ladkah would be fulfilled as many revolutionary steps were already taken for the betterment of the people of Ladakh by present Central Government.
He welcomed the NC men along with district president, Ladakh Dorjay Angchuk in the party fold on behalf of party national president, J P Nadda, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and other senior party leaders of Ladakh and said we all will work for betterment of the people of the region.
Addressing the gathering, P Wangdan Shunu Councilor said it is proud moment for all of them that they joined BJP today after the Ladakh unit of the party was dissolved fortnight back. He said they joined BJP to strengthen the hands of MP Jamyang and they support BJP’s policies of one nation one theory and complimented Narendra Modi for showing keen interest in development of Ladakh region.
He said what BJP did in last six years for Ladakh has not been done by previous Governments in 40 long years and expressed the hope that BJP would take Ladakh to new heights.
Councilor P.Wangdan said that the decision was taken unanimously to join BJP party as sitting MP is a youth leader. “We are here not because of our personal interest but to support Jamyang Tsering Namgyal so as to support him in development and prosperity of Ladakh region” said Wangdan adding that he was highly impressed by BJP vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas”. He added that BJP has granted UT status to Ladakh region within six years of its rule while the opposition (Congress) has no vision for Ladakh misleading the students by talking about 6th Schedule for Ladakh without knowing its pros and cons.
It may be recalled that NC Leh unit led by party president, Angchuk Lardak decided to dissolve the party after a general body meeting held recently and soon after that Turtuk NC councilor, Ghulam Mehdi joined BJP during the MP’s visit to Turtuk recently.
