JAMMU, Feb 19: Legislators representing Panchayats in the State Legislative Council, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Ali Mohammad Dar, Dr. Shahnaz Ganai and Sham Lal Bhagat today met Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and discussed various issues relating to strengthening of Panchayati Raj System in the State.
The legislators discussed in detail the issues of honorarium and security cover for Panchayat members besides other welfare measures. They also discussed involvement of panchayat members in community development in a bigger way. The infrastructure development and construction of Panchayat Ghars were also discussed in the meeting besides other issues of empowerment.
The Chief Minister said that Government is already working on the issue of honorarium and security cover for Panchayat members, adding that a comprehensive project for construction of panchayat ghars in the State has already been launched and is in progress on fast track. He assured the legislators that the demands put forth by them would be given due consideration.
A deputation of Panchs and Sarpanchs from Nobra Constituency led by MLA of the area, P. Namgyal also called on Chief Minister and discussed various issues relating to the development of Nobra.
The deputation highlighted the need for opening of Turtuk-Khapulu road. They also demanded construction of Turtuk-Hanu road stating that the construction of the road was under execution of BRO but it has abandoned the work which left 12 kilometres incomplete. They requested for completion of these 12 kilometres so that road between Turtuk and Hanu is through. They said that this road can also serve as an alternative road to Khardungla.
The deputation demanded status of Block to Turtuk, upgradation of PHC Turtuk, opening up of J&K Bank branch at Turtuk and special requirement drive for the youth of the area in Army, Police and Para-military forces.
The Chief Minister gave patient hearing and said that the demands would be given due consideration.
Meanwhile, a deputation of Dehati Brahman Sabha, Jammu led by its Pradan also called on Chief Minister and discussed matters pertaining to the welfare of Brahman Samaj.
