LC witnesses ruckus as Oppn demands resolution against VHP leader’s ‘anti-Muslim’ statement

SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council witnessed ruckus today when Opposition, including National Conference (NC) and Congress, demanded that a resolution be passed in the Upper House against VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi’s ‘anit- Muslim statement.’
Sadhvi, had on June 7 said she was working on ‘getting rid of Muslims’ from the country. “Now that we have almost achieved the mission of making a Congress-free India, it is time to make India, Muslim-free. We are working on that,” she had said.
As soon as the Upper House resumed functioning, main opposition NC and Congress members were on their feet demanding a resolution against the ‘anti-Muslim’ comment by the VHP leader.
However, the members from ruling BJP entered into a heated argument with the opposition legislators. The BJP leaders alleged that ”by doing so they were trying to please Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani and Pakistan.”
As Legislative Council chairman Anayat Ali asked the council members to sit and let the proceedings of the House to function, both NC and Congress staged a walkout.
Yesterday, similar scenes were witnessed in the Upper House when NC member Shehnaz Ganai raised the issue in the Legislative Council, demanding that the Council condemn the ‘anti-Muslim statement.’ Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar had yesterday said the country was incomplete without Muslims.
“The report has been carried by newspapers. Whosoever said it, it is wrong. Muslims are a part of the country and it is incomplete without them. Muslims have to live in the country as equal stakeholders. There is no need to divide this House,” he had said. (AGENCIES)
