SRINAGAR: The State Legislative Council today witnessed uproar over VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi’s statement that it is time to make India free of Muslims.
However, the State Government has termed the comments wrong, saying the country was incomplete without Muslims.
Sadhvi who is known not to shy away from controversies, had yesterday said she is working on getting rid of Muslims from the country. “Now that we have achieved the mission of making a Congress-free India, it is time to make India, Muslim-free. We are working on that,” she said.
As soon as the Upper House resumed functioning, main opposition National Conference (NC) member Shehnaz Ganai raised the issue in the Legislative Council, demanding that the Council condemn the anti-Muslim statement.
Gani’s sentiments were echoed by her party colleagues and Congress members. However, the members from ruling BJP entered into a heated argument with the opposition legislators even as Legislative Council chairman Anayat Ali urged the members to calm down and raise the issue during Zero Hour.
Later, Minister for Education Naeem Akhtar, who was present in the Upper House, stood up and said the country was incomplete without Muslims. (AGENCIES)
