LC Panel expresses dismay over tardy execution of works in key sectors

REASI: Expressing dismay over the tardy pace of work and lack of updated information with the concerned officers regarding important developmental projects in district Reasi, a panel of legislators headed by Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri today called upon the officers to regularly visit the working sites and stay abreast with physical progress on ground.

“It is dismaying to note that the concerned officers including engineers have no clue about the progress of projects on ground,” Dr Veeri said at a meeting with the officers of the R&B, PHE, I&FC, Education and Cooperative Departments here.

The meeting was convened by the visiting Departmental Related Standing Committee (DRSC) of the Upper House headed by Dr Veeri. MLCs Jugal Kishore Sharma, Saif-ud-Din Bhat, Ramesh Arora and Qaisar Jamsheed Lone were also present in the meeting.

The officers apprised the panel about various developmental projects being executed in the district.

The Legislators suggested several innovative measures to improve and upgrade the water availability in the district besides ensuring sustainable use of available water.

Jugal Kishore raised some issues of damage of roads due to cable laying digging, proper survey of four lane from Domail to Pouni, running of bus service from Katra town towards SMVD University, slow construction of roads and bridge works, completion of water supply schemes especially Anji to Pangan Devta, functioning of LIS Kundra, Talwara and Jerri.

Ramesh Arora elaborated on conservation of water resources through check dams, restoration of existing ponds, thrust on springs besides exploring other possible means to increase the water availability in the areas.

The chairman instructed the engineers to complete all the schemes of NRDWP and PMGSY roads in time-bound manner so that the poor people get benefit out of them. He also took detail of CP and Part time workers of PHE and Irrigation which need to be regularized.

While taking review of the education sector, the Chairman stressed on improving quality of Mid-day Meal being prepared in the schools and discussed the steps required to reduce dropout rate among girl students.

District Development Commissioner Ravinder Kumar, Engineers, Chief Education Officer and other officers were present in the meeting.
