LBA Youth Wing organizes debate on ‘Social inequality in Ladakh’

LEH, June 19: Continuing with its endeavour to remove social barrier in the society, Youth Wing of Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) organized a debate on the theme “Social inequality in Ladakh”.
The session chaired by Chhetsang Rinpochey witnessed huge response from youth brigade. In the session, discussion was held on caste system and suicide cases.
Referring to many historical instances, Rinpochey clearly stated that there is no caste system but people made it with political motivated intension. Mentioning about various existing tribes, he added that tribes were classified due to their profession and skill so as to perform certain set duties but for various reason, castes were created on the basis of the profession which continues to exist even today. It is required to hold number of seminars and debates to remove such myth, said Rinpochey.
He also believed that perhaps it might be trick to stop the people migration to smaller region like Ladakh, therefore those who migrated to Ladakh were considered as lower caste to stop the migration. He added that all sentient beings were equal before the eyes of God and it is against the basic principal of Buddhism to believe in caste system.
Speaking on the suicide growing cases in Ladakh especially among younger generation, he added that due to competition having lust for more materialistic cause’s depression resulting in suicide. He believed that due to sudden and drastic development, competition and watching television showing various products caused depression when one failed to achieve it. Emphasising the need for taming mind, he stressed for maintaining good relation among each other and added that money can’t buy happiness unless we have good mental health.
Later, the participants raised number of queries which he answered detailed.
Earlier, LBA Youth Wing President Rinchen Namgyal presented the welcome address.
