Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) Srinagar has been under scanner for quite some time. Wild allegations are leveled against the functionaries of its Enforcement Wing in which the law has been violated. We have already said in thee columns that the High Court has taken serious view of the irregularities reported in this organization for quite some time and furthermore the nexus that has come into existence among the LAWDA enforcement Wing functionaries and the beneficiaries. The surprising thing is that so far no action has been taken against the defaulters. Now in pursuance of the orders of the court, Vigilance Organization Kashmir has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act against officials of Lakes and Waterways Development for constructions illegally raised in prohibited areas.
We appreciate the action of the SVO but we will keep close track of the proceedings of this case whether the organization really means to deliver. Now that the case is registered, heavy responsibility devolves on the SVO and people will be watching it from close quarters.
