NEW DELHI: Minister of State for Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir today told the Rajya Sabha that law and order situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir has improved.

In a written reply to a question, Mr Ahir said the activities of disruptive elements, including the militants and the separatists creating unrest, are kept under regular surveillance by the law enforcing agencies.

However, he also stated that there were nearly 200 terrorists present in the Valley, out of which 105 had infiltrated into the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC), up to September 2016. He said the extra local intelligence have been put into force to keep a close vigil on those terrorists present in the Valley.

During recent past, several combing operations had been carried out by the security agencies in this regard. For bringing militancy under control, it was necessary to keep the youth away from terrorist activities and for this purpose, additional 10,000 SPOs were engaged in the State.

Besides, 1206 posts of constable jobs and 4300 posts of India Reserve Battalion in J&K were created for Kashmir Youths. (AGENCIES)
