Landslide triggers panic in Baramulla

SRINAGAR, Dec 19: A landslide occurred today in the Khanpora area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, triggering panic among local residents.
The incident took place amid dense smog which, coupled with the sudden movement of debris and earth down the slope, sharply reduced visibility and created an eerie atmosphere in the area.
Locals said stone quarries are operating near the site, but could not confirm whether the landslide was triggered by quarrying activity.
Officials confirmed the incident to ‘Excelsior’ and said an assessment is underway to ascertain the cause of the landslide, adding that no injuries were reported.
Videos recorded by residents shortly after the incident in the evening show soil and rocks sliding down the hillside, with people seen fleeing the spot in fear.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property, officials said, adding that the situation is being closely monitored.
