SRINAGAR, Sept 12: A patch of land sank today in Badipathri Thune area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after days of incessant rain, causing damage to a local Government Primary School.
Locals said cracks appeared in the school building, making it unsafe for students. “The school got damaged last night, making the place unsafe for children. They need to be shifted. We request the Government to move the children to a temporary arrangement until a permanent solution is sought,” he said. Click here to watch video
An official said he had visited the school last year and submitted a report to the Chief Education Officer. “A technical team was sent there and declared the building unsafe. An auction will be conducted within a week. The second building available to us also has cracks, and a technical team will determine if it is safe,” the official said.
He added that the education of students would not be affected. “We will shift them to rented accommodation, and restoration work will be carried out in a time-bound manner,” he said.
