REASI, Dec 11: Demanding enhancement in present structure of wages the Lambardars and Chowkidars of Reasi district have urged the State Government to increase their remuneration at the earliest and address other problems so that they could be able to lead an honourable life.
The demands were raised by more than 300 ‘Lambardars and Chowkidars’ in a public meeting which was organized by district Congress Reasi, general secretary, Tariq Bhat at Dak Bungalow here wherein Member Legislative Council (MLC) and senior Congress leader Jugal Kishore Sharma was the chief guest.
Besides Lambardars and Chowkidars, a large number of Panchs and Sarpanchs and locals attended the programme.
In the meeting, difficulties pertaining to Panchayats and day to day problems being faced by Lambardars, Chowkidars, Panchs and Sarpanchs were discussed in detail. They demanded Office-cum-Conference Hall for Panchs-Sarpanchs and Lambardars-Chowkidars at district headquarter in order to facilitate regular meetings.
Speaking on the occasion, president Lambardar-Chowkidar Union, Reasi, Capt. Baldev Singh said that the prices of essential commodities have increased manifold therefore, the demand to enhance wages of Lamabardars and Chowkidars is most deserving. Tariq Bhat alleged that the district administration was not affective.
He also also advocated increase in remuneration of Lambardars-Chowkidars besides demanding honorarium for Panchs-Sarpanchs and more powers to them as envisaged in 73rd Amendment of the Constitution on the pattern of other States.
MLC Jugal Kishore assured the gathering that he will take up all the issues of Lambardars-Chowkidars and Panchs-Sarpanchs with the concerned Ministers besides highlighting and raising the issues in the Legislative Council when the Session commences.
