JAMMU, Oct 28: Lam Rashtriya Rifles today celebrated Shaheedgarh Diwas with prodigious ceremony and display.
This day which is also known as Qila Dharal Defense Day is a tribute to the gallant civilians who in 1947 took up defenses to protect their motherland from Pakistani Raiders.
These brave civilians led by Jathedar Ram Singh and Sardar Hukam Singh fought back successive attacks of Pakistani raiders till Indian Army under Brig Mohd Usman, arrived for the defense of Naushera on 28 October 1947.
This legacy of bravery continues through the generations with locals making supreme sacrifice till date guarding the nation.
Besides the four generations of these bravehearts who come here every year to remember their forefathers, the event witnessed a gathering of more than 3500 locals who paid tributes and homages to the departed recollecting their sacrifice which stands as an epitome of patriotism for the younger generations to emulate.
Brig P Acharya, Commander 13 Sector Rashtriya Rifles laid wreath at the Shaheedgarh War Memorial paying respects to those who gave supreme sacrifice while fighting for the nation.
The event was also attended by Bal Sainik Basant Singh, Bachittar Singh, SC and various civil dignitaries.
This event organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an effort to evoke and keep the flame of patriotic feeling alive amongst the youth and give them a chance to imbibe the nationalistic sentiments from the gallant acts of these brave civilians.
