Lal Singh urges Governor to order probe into controversial Excise Policy

KATHUA, Mar 7: Strongly criticizing the recent policy of the State Excise Department, Choudhary Lal Singh, president of Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan (DSS) has appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene into the matter and order a probe into change in the clause on distance of liquor shop from religious and educational places.
While addressing an impressive gathering of people at block Barnoti, here today, Lal Singh alleged that all the leaders of Jammu who are sure that they would never win in the coming elections, have applied for the wine and bar licenses. “It seems that the present regime has already decided to spoil the youth of Jammu by inciting the youth into the habit of the intoxication,” he said.
Apprising the gathering, that a memorandum against the controversial policy of the Excise Department has been submitted to the Divisional Commissioner Jammu by the leaders of DSS, Ch Lal Singh also appealed to the Governor to conduct an enquiry and identify the officers who were instrumental in changing the minimum distance of wine shops from educational and religious places from 300 meters to 100 meters.
He further appealed to the women of Jammu to get ready for the protests in order to save their children from the menace of the alcoholism. “DSS is committed for the saving the generation of Jammu and will not allow happening this at any cost,” he added.
Ch Lal Singh also strongly condemned today’s grenade blast at the Bus Stand Jammu and said that the DSS has taken very serious note of this as this was the second similar blast at the same area. It seems a deep rooted conspiracy to destabilize the peaceful environment of Jammu, he added.
Dr Hari Dutt Shishu also addressed the gathering and appealed the masses to support the candidature of the Ch Lal Singh for the Member Parliament from Udhampur Kathua in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
K D Singh, Kuljeet Singh, S Balbir Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Adv B S Jamwal, Sudershan Choudhay, Vikas Dutt, Navneet Kaur, Adv Vikrant, Raju Pehlwan, Vimal Manchanda, Raghav Khajuria and S Daljeet Singh accompanied Choudhary Lal Singh.
Earlier, a bike rally was also organized by the Kathua workers of the Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan. Hundreds of supporters of the DSS participated in the bike rally and gave a rousing reception to the president of DSS.
