LAHDC opens new Sabzi Mandi for local farmers

LEH, Aug 29: The LAHDC Leh with an aim to promote production of local vegetable and fruits and to ensure prompt selling as well as reasonable price, opened a local Sabzi Mandi near new bus stand today.
The Executive Councilor Agriculture, Phuntsog Stanzin formally inaugurated the Mandi where the farmers from different rural pockets with their agro-produces attended the opening function and sold various varieties of vegetables and fruits and many of those items were purely organic.
Speaking on the occasion, EC Agri said that this initiative is a step forward towards organic farming in Ladakh, as LAHDC is already in the process of bringing a revolutionary change in agriculture sector through organic farming in near future. He urged upon the farmers to grow cash oriented vegetables with maximum varieties and said that LAHDC will put its all efforts to create marketing facility. To ensure equal marketing opportunity for all the farmers of different areas near and far, Phuntsog Stanzin urged to devise a village wise selling roster allotting specific dates for each village and said that a committee will also keep close monitor to make the system successful.
To make this initiative purposeful, EC Agri appealed to the farmers to extend utmost cooperation at the initial stage and said that once this system works, it will be going to benefit each and every farmers with huge income. He once again reiterated that during the peak summer when local vegetables and fruits are available in plenty, LAHDC keeping in mind the benefit of own farmers decided to restrict import of vegetables from outside Ladakh.
On this occasion, the farmers appreciated the visionary initiative of LAHDC and also demanded to provide a godown for the farmers who can drop their left out produces during night time.
On this occasion, Deputy Registrar Cooperative, Gh Sultan Tak; AD,CAPD, Nissar; Scientists SKUAST Jigmet Yangchan; Secretary, Cooperative Marketing Societies, Tsewang Dorjey; ARC Skarma Tashi Fandey, Sarpanches, Gobas, progressive farmers and members of Ama Tsogspa were present.
