Ladakh students take part in virtual National Kala Utsav competition

LEH, Jan 22: Students from both Leh and Kargil districts took part in the virtual National Kala Utsav 2020 that ended today at Paras Hall of Boys Higher Senior Secondary School, Leh today.
The virtual competition had commenced on January 11. National Kala Utsav is an initiative of Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, launched in 2015 to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students at secondary level in the country. It is also an effort to mainstream students with special needs such as differently-abled and from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and to celebrate their abilities.
Due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the students had to showcase their performances through live streaming of the event. Earlier, students were invited to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, for the competition.
The selected students of both the districts performed vocal music- traditional folk, instrumental music- traditional folk, dance- folk, visual arts (2D), visual arts (3D), and indigenous toys and games.
Selected candidates who performed at National Level Kala Utsav-2020 are:
Punchok Wangmo of HSS Shargole, Kargil (Fold Dance), Konchok Namgail of Lamdon Model Sr Sec. School Leh (Folk dance), Mohd Javed of HS Poyen, Kargil (Folk Song), Kunzes Dolma of GHSS Leh (Folk Song), Tsering Kunsa of Lamdon Model Sr Sec School Leh (Traditional Instrument), Stanzin Gafail of H S Liker (Painting), Maksooma Bano of HS Kaksar, Kargil (Painting), Irfan Haider of HS Chushot Yokma (Painting-3d) and Sonam Stanzin of HS Liker(Indigenous Toy/games).
The award function-cum-closing ceremony of National Kala Utsav-2020 would be broadcast live on January 28 at Kala Utsav YouTube channel.
