Ladakh remembers Lt Col Chewang Rinchen on his 22nd death anniversary

LEH, July, 1: Remembering Lt. Col. Chewang Rinchen, on his 22nd death anniversary Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre (LSRC) organised a wreath laying ceremony at his Memorial Park today wherein Lt. Gen. YK Joshi GOC Fire & Fury Corps was the chief guest on the occasion. GOC Sub area Leh, Lt. Gen. other  dignitaries includes, GOC Leh Sub Area Maj Gen Yash Mor SM, Army officers, LSRC Commanding Officer Col. Rinchen Dorje, VSM, Ashok Charka Chering Mutup, MLC Chering Dorjay, former Union Minister, P.Namgyal, relatives and well-wishers of late Chewang Rinchen also attended the wreath laying ceremony.
Pertinent to mention here Lt Col Chewang Rinchen MVC Bar, SM hailed from Sumoor village in Nubra. While still in his teens he raised volunteers for Nubra Guard which successfully pushed back the tribal invaders from Pakistan in 1948. For this remarkable feat he was awarded the MVC. He thus became the youngest recipient of this prestigious award. He was awarded Sena Medal for his services during the Sino-India war of 1962.
He was awarded the MVC the second time in the Indo-Pak war in 1971, when the Indian forces under his command liberated Turtuk region in Nubra Valley from Pakistan. A born soldier Lt.Col Chewang Rinchen personified the qualities of bravery, fortitudes, dedicated and sincerity in their highest degrees.
