A spokesman of the Association said that decision with regard to the protest/strike was jointly taken by the Power employees from Kargil and Leh districts. They also have taken up the matter with the Ladakh MP and the CEC, LAHDC Leh and Kargil for further taking up the matter with Union Government and the Lt Governor of Ladakh UT.
The employees said that they have lot of apprehensions about their future as well. They said the climatic conditions and topography of the area is very tough. There are over 80 % domestic consumers and hardly 20 % of other nature and the annual load requirement is only 50 MW during peak load months. Moreover, AT&C losses in Ladakh are hardly 40% which may be over come by implementing Centrally sponsored schemes and other power reforms. The Govt department for smaller territory is most efficient and suitable and moreover, the Government must review its decision with regard to privataisation of Power sector in Ladakh.
