NEW DELHI: The Government on Wednesday said it is striving to conduct competitive examinations in all the languages of the country, but the lack of authentic material and good translation remained a major obstacle which it was trying to overcome.
Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Dr Jitendra Singh said in reply to a supplementary question in the Lok Sabha during the Question Hour that the Modi government has been trying to implement the Official Language Act of 1968 ever since it came to power. Use of Hindi and other regional languages had increased in these five years.
Dr Singh said the government wished that government competitive examinations should be conducted in all the languages listed in the eighth schedule, but the content for that should also be of a high level.
He said there was a shortage of translators at the level from which high-level material is not available. The government was trying to overcome this shortage and get more and more authentic translation. (AGENCIES)
