Labour Deptt organises awareness session for traders, employees at Apsara Road

JAMMU, July 19: The Labour Department Jammu organised an awareness-cum-interaction session at Apsara Road, Gandhi Nagar, with the aim to educate business establishments and employees about labour rights and responsibilities.
The session was chaired by Labour Commissioner S Charandeep Singh, who interacted with the Apsara Road Traders Association and employees working in the area.
The Commissioner patiently heard the concerns of traders and employees and assured them of full cooperation from the Labour Department.
During the session, the Labour Commissioner highlighted that the department is working in the direction of “Ease of Doing Business” while ensuring that labour laws are implemented in letter and spirit for the welfare of the working class.
He urged traders to ensure timely payment of wages, not below the minimum wage, along with weekly paid holidays for employees. Singh stressed that only through collective efforts and awareness among both employers and employees can a harmonious work environment be built.
The Labour Commissioner also reminded business owners about the mandatory rights of workers, including Provident Fund (PF), Employees’ State Insurance (ESI), minimum wages, leave and bonus.
He called upon every employer to respect these rights so that workers can live with dignity. Strict directions were also issued to field officers to ensure greater efficiency, zeal, and commitment while delivering services.
The Commissioner assured that reforms are underway to make labour laws more transparent and business-friendly without compromising workers’ rights.
He stated that businesses should not face inconvenience in securing licenses and called for suggestions to further improve labour law services.
Assistant Labour Commissioner Jammu, Rupali Jasrotia, Labour Officers and Labour Inspectors also attended the session along with members of the Apsara Road Traders Association.
