JAMMU, June 28: Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) has alleged that Labour department has failed to run ESI Dispensaries in the State.
A meeting of BBIA was held under the presidentship of Lalit Mahajan in the presence of Tarun Singla, senior vice president, Ajay Langer vice president, Viraaj Malhotra general secretary, Rajesh Jain secretary and Vivek Singhal Treasurer BBIA and other members. During discussions, members raised their serious concern that Labour Department has failed to run State owned ESI Dispensaries and to establish New Dispensaries across the State resulting Industrial workers suffering very badly due to non availability of Medicare Facility in spite of the fact that Employers and Employees paying the requisite Contribution to ESI Corporation on regular basis.
As per the data available with the Association, around 2.5 lakh workers registered with the ESI Corporation and Corporation allocated requisite Funds to Labour Department for providing requisite Medical and Para medical Staff and other services in the existing Dispensaries and also a proposal for the opening of 11 New Dispensaries in State but till date nothing has been done.
Mahajan said the position is more serious as the Labour Department failed to provide the requisite staff in the State owned Dispensaries as the Health Department has refused to provide the doctors and para medical staff on deputation due to shortage. The matter has been discussed in several Hospital Development Committee meetings since last four years for providing requisite staff in the State run Dispensaries with a proposal to hand over the Dispensaries to ESI Corporation but the same has been turned down by the Labour Commissioner.
It is a matter of great concern that the workers are not getting the treatment even after the payment of ESI contribution from their hard earned money and have no option but to spend money for the treatment from Pvt. Clinics. It is the responsibility of the Labour Department and ESI Corporation to provide best Medicare treatment to the workers who are the major contributor to the ESI Corporation. It was also pointed out by the Industrial workers that no doctor is available in the Dispensaries after 2PM in spite of the fact that the Govt timing is from 10.00 AM to 4.30 PM and factory workers are made to work round the clock in shifts and in case of any emergency only inadequate junior staff is available.
