Kumaresh A wins Int’l Chess Fiesta

JAMMU, Mar 31: Kumaresh A of Tamil Nadu emerged as the winner of the International Rating Chess Fiesta Tournament held at IDPS, scoring an impressive 8 out of 9 points. He displayed exceptional tactical skills throughout the nine-round event, played under FIDE laws using the Swiss system.
During the closing ceremony, Satish Sharma, MLA Billawar, was the chief guest. He distributed cash prizes worth Rs 2 lakh among the winners. The programme was attended by Meenal Gupta, President of the All J&K Chess Association; Arunima Choudhary and Suminder Singh, MDs of IDPS; Sanjeev Gupta, Ajay Gupta, Madhu Abrol, and Atul Kumar Gupta, Chairman of the Planning and Development Commission of the All India Chess Federation.
J&K player Ashutosh Jamwal secured second place after defeating Kumaresh A in the final round, while Ram Parkash of Indian Railways finished third. Sumit Grover claimed fourth position. Players finishing from fifth to twentieth included Ishmeet Singh, Pazhany Kohli, Akshat Negi, Aarav Gupta, Amanpreet Singh, Aahana Gupta, Samyak Jain, Aryan Mehta, Maxim Singh, Paras Sharma, Vaibhav Dwedi, Anurag Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Arnaz Pasricha, S.P. Sharma, and Rithvik Gandotra.
In special categories, Alankrita Sharma was Best Woman, Manoj Kohli Best Veteran, Sidharth Dev Best J&K Player, Ashwiina Raina Best J&K Female, Aadil Johnson Best U-15 Boy, Saanvi Parihar Best U-15 Girl, Simardeep Singh Best U-13 Boy, Aarnika Thakur Best U-13 Girl, and Tejas Tiwari Best U-11 Boy.
A total of 120 players from nine states participated. International Arbiter Varun Kumar officiated the event with support from Anand J.S., Arvindu, Nirmal Sharma, Ajit Kumar and Stuti Gupta.
