SRINAGAR, May 14: M.Y. Tarigami, MLA Kulgam, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan today.
Among other matters Tarigami informed Governor about the discussions held at the All Party Meeting convened by the State Government last week and pointed to the subsisting challenges in the path of regaining normalcy in the Valley.
Governor re-iterated his view, repeatedly expressed over the past several years, about the crucial importance of leaders of all political, religious, social, economic and other organisations in the State, including even those who have vastly different views, getting together to evolve an agreed approach which is founded in satisfying the basic minimum aspirations of the various segments of society.
Observing that continuing unrest has involved not only heavy human and economic losses but also jeopardised the career prospects of several lakh youth whose academic schedules continue to be adversely affected, Governor urged Tarigami to continue his sustained endeavours for promoting the welfare of the State and its people.
Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh, MLA Ganderbal also called on Governor and briefed him about the major development projects sanctioned for district Ganderbal and the current status of each of them, particularly referring to delays in regard to the commencement of New Ganderbal HE Power Project, putting the new Unani College to use and shifting Central University Kashmir from Srinagar to Ganderbal.
Appreciating Sheikh’s concerns, Governor urged him to continue his efforts for promoting a peaceful environment in the area of his influence, which would enable the rapid development and growth of the entire Kashmir region.
Mohd. Saifullah Farooq, Chairman Human Welfare Association J&K also met Governor and apprised him about various socio-economic problems being faced by people due to the recurringly disturbed law and order situations in Kashmir and the deleterious effect on growth and development. He briefed Governor about various programmes devised by the Association for alleviating the problems of the people and enhancing peace and normalcy. He sought Governor’s support in the implementation of his proposed approach.
