Srinagar, June 25: Protests broke out today in Kashmir University campus at Hazratbal here against the arrest of a student by police two days ago for his alleged militant links.
Police arrested Muzamil Ahmad, student of Department of English, from Saderbal area of Srinagar two days ago.
Hundreds of students today gathered at Kashmir University and protested against the arrest of the student. Police charged batons on the students to disperse them.
Following the protests Kashmir University authorities asked the students to vacate the varsity hostel immediately till further orders. “This is for the information of all boarders that all hostels of Kashmir University will remain closed with effect from 26th of June 2015 till further orders. All are directed to vacate the hostels by 9.00 a.m tomorrow”, says a KU order issued today.
The KU administration decided to suspend class work for June 26 and June 27 after massive protests.
