JAMMU, Aug 17: In a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chuni Lal Raina and under the banner of Sadhu Ganga Asthapan Committee at Surya Vihar Bohri today, Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) of district Kupwara have sought protection of ancient holy Shrine ‘Sadhu Ganga Asthapan’ situated at village Kandi Khass in Kupwara.
The meeting sought the indulgence and immediate action of the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir against the culprits who are planning to encroach upon the Shrine and its property, thereby hurting the religious and emotional sentiments of Pandit Community.
The members said that the Shrine being worshipped by the Pandit community was till date preserved by the cooperation of the majority community of the area, adding that the Shrine is being visited by thousands of people every year.
The members claimed that the Shrine has an immovable property of hundreds of kanals of land, apart from fruit bearing walnut and apple trees as per the revenue record, besides having a holy spring and a ditty of Sadhu Maharaj, which was being looked after by a ‘Mahant’ Brij Nath, who was killed by the militants.
The members further claimed that after the Mahant’s death, the Shrine is being managed by a registered Trust, adding that the attempt of grabbing this property by some locals is resulting into an apprehension of leading it to a communal violence.
“This inhuman act of these locals is causing irreparable loss to KP community as also to the Trust, besides creating tension and apprehension of law and order disturbances in the area,” the members added.
The meeting sought immediate intervention of the Government to protect the holy Shrine and action against the culprits.
The meeting among others was attended by Sohan Lal Raina, Anil Raina, Chaman Lal, Shuban Lal, Kanwal Krishan, Pran Nath, ML Raina, Ravinder and Sanjay Raina.
