JAMMU, Dec 21: As part of its year long centenary celebrations, Kashmiri Pandit Sabha Ambphalla organized a seminar on the topic “ The role of Women in preserving the cultural of KP Community and in eradication of social evils’’.
The students from different educational institutions of Jammu participated in the seminar. Khem Lata Wakhloo chairperson Social Welfare Board Board was the chief guest on the occasion and K K Khosa president K P Sabha presided over the function.
The members of the Jury were Prof Indu Kilm, Prof Indu Aima, Prof Sushma Misri and Prof Rita Munshi.
The seminar started with the welcome address of Mr Khosa. He said the debate on socio cultural transformation in KP society is being organized as a part of centenary celebrations of the Sabha. In the changing scenario during the exodus lot of changes have been forced on the socio cultural ethos of the community and it is necessary to see how next generation of the community takes it in their stride in the present context, he added.
Khem Lata Wakhloo exhorted the gathering especially girls to fight menace of social evils which have crept into KP society by eradicating evil customs associated with marriages and other social ceremonies.
She was skeptical as to how poorer sections of the KP society are being compelled to follow the competitive lavishness by the richer sections of the society.
Mrs Wakhloo said society needs to ponder over it and undo the damages it has started causing to the cultural roots. She announced that she will provide finance to Sabha through Central Social Welfare Board for organizing a seminar on social evils.
In the seminar Namrita Bhan stood first and she was given a cash prize of Rs 2000. Priya Kaul who stood second and was given a cash prize of Rs 1500. Nimisha Pandita stood third and was also given a cash prize of Rs 1000.
Besides all the participants were given the medals and certificates of participation H N Tiku president Sanskar a NGO gave Rs 100 as cash award to each participant.
The programme was compared by Prof Usha Ticku, Principal and vote thanks was proposed by Ashok Kumar Braroo, senior vice president K P Sabah.
