JAMMU, June 14: Various KP organizations have opposed the Government decision of charging power tariff from migrants putting up at Jagti camp at Rs 350 and Rs 700 respectively for relief holders cum pensioners and employees category.
While opposing the decision, JKVM senior leader Ashok Kangan said that relief holders putting up in the camp can’t afford to pay Rs 350 as power tariff per month. He said it is surprising that while announcing the construction of Jagti township, Prime Minster, Dr Manmohan Singh had announced that the Jagti camp people will be provided all facilities.
He said it is surprising that for last two years the camp inmates are getting power supply for five to six hours a day and no promise made by PM was kept.
Kashmiri migrant relief holders Jagti have also opposed the Government decision to deduct the power tariff at Rs 350 per family from relief category. They said that the decision was taken by Government after consulting some self styled leaders of the community who have no right to take any decision on behalf of public.
They demanded that election be held in the camp so that the real representatives come to fore and said that before asking the relief holders to pay power tariff Government should pay compensation to over aged youth.
JTC has also opposed the decision saying that Government was duty bound to provide all facilities to migrants till their honorable and dignified rehabilitation in their homeland in Kashmir.
JTC president Shadi Lal Pandita said that the political workers who are enjoying migrant status have been provided all facilities free of cost in hotels and other rented accommodations provided by Government while the real victims of terrorism are forced to pay power tariff.
