JAMMU, Nov 7: A delegation of Gujjars and Bakerwals called on Transport Minister Abdul Gani Kohli at Government Guest House, Srinagar, today and apprised him of their burning problems and sought his intervention for the mitigation of the same.
These people hailing from  Srinagar, Banihal,  Pulwama, Shopian, Uri,  Kalakote and other parts of the State, had reached Srinagar, to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public rally and soon after the rally they met the Transport Minister.
Narrating their woes, these people said that they lead very tough lives as most of them keep moving as nomads for their survival and the places where they have temporary shelters are mostly far away from the main cities and towns and hence lack basic amenities. They further told the Minister that those among them, who have permanent dwellings, the transport facility are not available to them as a result of which their family members, including school going children and daily commuters suffer a lot. They appealed for immediate provision of the transport facilities to all such areas inhabiting the population of their communities besides ensuring basic amenities.
Abdul Gani Kohli, informed the delegation  that the members of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities are part & parcel of the rich culture of the State and have been presenting a true example of communal harmony and brotherhood. He said that the present PDP- BJP coalition Gover-nment has been working towards treating all the regions and sections of the society equally and whatever has been brought into his notice will be looked into sympathetically and taken up for earlier redressal.
