SRINAGAR, May 8: Minister for Transport, Abdul Gani Kohli today stressed upon the management of Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) for upgradation and improvement of existing workshops. He also asked them to furnish a detailed report about the status of these workshops to the administrative department along with a Detailed Project Report for major overhauling of these workshops.
This instructions were given by the Minister in a meeting convened to review the overall functioning of the Corporation.
The Minister directed the JKSRTC to properly utilize prime assets available with the Corporation. He said it would not only increase income for the Corporation but also give employment to the educated un-employed youth. Mr. Kohli called for comprehensive plan in this regard and asked the concerned to prepare Detailed Project Report and submit the same to the concerned quarters for sanction.
Detailed discussion was also held on total strength of trucks and buses plying on the roads. It was given out that a fleet of 334 trucks and 577 buses are available, out of which 236 trucks and 286 buses are road worthy. The Minister was informed that 1214 vehicles have been purchased by the JKSRTC from 1990 onwards.
The Minister directed the concerned to auction old aged vehicles of the Corporation. He also sought detailed status report about the operation of JnNURM vehicles plying on different routes.
The Minister said that the PDP-BJP Government is committed to provide transparent and good governance to the people. He directed the officers to work with utmost dedication and honestly. He asked them that the dedicated and honest officials would be rewarded and those who show laxity shall face punishment.
Secretary, Transport Baseer Ahmad Khan, Managing Director, JKSRTC J. S. Tandan and other officers of Transport Department and Corporation were present in the meeting.
