KKHMS, DKUYU delegation calls on CEO

JAMMU, Oct 26: A deputation of Kashmiri migrants under the banner of Displaced Kashmiri Khatri Hindu Maha Sabha (KKHMS) and Displaced Kashmiri Unemployed Youth Union (DKUYU) led by its chairman, Er Ramesh Chander Mahajan called on Chief Electoral Officer, and Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Baramulla, Anatnag etc and apprised them of the problems of migrants.
The delegation during its meeting with CEO informed him that in the updated records of Municipal and Panchayat electoral voter lists of the Kashmiri migrants, the name of members are totally missing, besides the EPIC/current new coloured voter identity cards are not issued till date, with the result migrants are facing problems .
The delegation further said that migrants are continuously facing discrimination since 1990which is totally an injustice with them. The authorities always tried to discourage these hapless people by depriving them of their constitutional right to cast their vote. The delegation said with this type of discriminative attitude of the Government the Kashmiri migrants lost their identity in the State as well as at Centre.
The delegation demanded complete enrolment of Kashmiri migrants before the next Parliamentary and Assembly elections in the State.
The delegation further demanded that Kashmiri migrants be declared internally displaced people for whom five seats be kept reserved in the State Assembly, four in Legislative Council and one each in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. They further demanded overall empowerment of migrants.
During the meetings with deputy commissioners, the delegation demanded implementation of Migrants Immovable Property 1997 Act and action against those Revenue officers who are involved in tampering the records of migrants’ property. Further they demanded sanctioning of low soft loans and proving the benefit of all skilled development programmes to migrant youth and providing of accommodation to migrant employees serving in Valley with all basic amenities.
