Kissan Tehreek delegation calls on DC Kathua

KATHUA, Sept 13: A deputation of Jammu Kashmir Kissan Tehreek, District Committee Kathua called on District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Raghav Langer here, today and discussed various issues concerning farmers with him.
The delegation was led by Sewa Ram Bhagat, district president of the Tehreek and it submitted a memorandum highlighting the demands of farmers to him.
The memorandum demanded intensification of the process for acquisition of land and early start of work over two grain Mandis already sanctioned by Governor’s administration for Kathua district.
The delegation also demanded timely opening of sufficient number of procurement centers for procurement of paddy crop in district Kathua especially in paddy growing areas, periodical checking be conducted on private marketers so that they should not procure farmers produce less than MSP as approved by Government, fixation of MSP for various Basmati verities produced in the district, besides opening of Basmati procurement centers in the district.
The delegation further demanded proper maintaining of fruit and vegetable Mandis , issuance of soil health cards and KCC cards to all farmers for production of quality crop, encouraging people to open small dairy farms to overcome the growing unemployment of rural youth, farmers be given free hand to procure agriculture tools and equipments from any private agency instead of Agro Industries, debarring of banks from deducting premium from their KCC without willingness of farmers, measures be adopted on pattern of Himachal Pradesh Government to save crops from wild animals, bonus for the crops of Maize, Paddy and Wheat be provided to farmers on the aegis of Kerala Government.
The delegation later in a handout said that DDC Kathua issued directives to concerned authorities for doing needful and he assured the deputation that at least 15 procurement centers will be opened in district Kathua.
The other members of the deputation included Ramesh Dass, Jagdish Chander, Dharam Singh, Hans Raj, Jankar Chand, Lal Chand, Rukam Din, Thakur Ram, Kewal Singh, Babu Ram, Raghubir Singh, Lekh Raj, Rajesh Kumar etc.
