Kissan Maha Panchayat seeks respite for farmers

JAMMU, Apr 22: A delegation of  Kissan Maha Panchayat Majalta, Udhampur, led by  social activist S S Sumbria today called on  Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Yasha Mudgal and apprised her about the sufferings of the farming community in the area.
Highlighted their demands in the wake of losses suffered by them in the recent heavy rains and natural calamity, the farmers demanded insurance cover for their crops as also the cocoons developed by them and development of Mandi for cocoons at Majalta.
Sumbria informed that about 80 to 100 per cent losses have occurred in rain affected villages rendering farmers  totally helpless to nourish even their own families.
He demanded compensation and early redreassal of farmers’ problems so that they have sigh of relief.
After listening to the issues, Deputy Commissioner assured that she would  take up all their issues with the concerned authorities and work hard to get these sorted out at the earliest.
The delegation comprised of Hans Raj, Babu Ram, Sher Singh, Pritam Singh, Joginder and others.
