KISHTWAR, July 22: The people of Kishtwar district today extended full support to AIIMS Coordination Committee’s demand for setting up of a separate AIIMS for Jammu region saying that Jammu was a Central place for establishment of this prestigious medical institute.
The members of Kishtwar Civil Society and leaders of various organizations in a meeting here today held under the chairmanship of Shamsher Singh Bhandari a social activist and senior member of the civil society urged the Government not to delay the decision on the AIIMS as this has generated a lot of public resentment in entire Jammu region.
The meeting said that Jammu lacks specialized medicare facilities and people have to either visit Punjab, Chandigarh or Delhi for the same and those living in far-flung areas and the poor people can’t afford the same. Hence setting up of AIIMS at a centrally located place i -e Jammu will benefit the people of entire region.
The meeting while justifying the demand of AIIMS CC said the Government should accept the demand without further delay and make announcement at an earliest in this regard.
