JAMMU, Oct 26: An impressive Kirtan Darbar was organized here at Gurudwara Sri Baba Chanda Singh ji, Jain Bazaar, on the occasion of Bandi Chhor Divas during which the Sikh community raised the demand of holding elections for District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committees (DGPCs).
A large sangat from Jammu city and surrounding areas reached the Gurudwara Sahib for listening the Kirtan Darbar. Parveen Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Dr Jitender Singh recited the Kirtan and highlighted the importance of Bandi Divas and facts related to it. The Langar was also served to the sangat.
While speaking on the occasion, Sukhbir Singh lauded the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar Sahib and other Sikh organizations for providing relief to the flood victims of J&K.
He urged the State Government to conduct election of DGPCs so that they may function as per the Rehat Maryada of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
The sangat demanded reconstruction of Gurudwara Sahib Ser Manjila in tehsil Ramnagar, which was put on fire by some miscreants in the year 1984 and subsequently it fell down to ground in the year 1987. They also demanded strict action against the miscreants who removed the holy Nishan Sahib from the spot in February 2013, alleging that the police has not taken any action in the case.
They also asserted for giving minority status to Sikh Community, security to Sikh families residing in Kashmir Valley and special package for their upliftment and settlement of claims of 1947 by giving the Sikh community the property rights of Evacuee Property and compensation.
They also raised the demand of appointment of Punjabi teachers in schools and colleges.
