JAMMU, June 15: The killings of senior journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Rising Kashmir newspaper Shujaat Bukhari, his two PSOs and an Army jawan have been widely condemned.
Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta expressed shock over the killings and prayed to God to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Advisor to Chief Minister Prof Amitabh Mattoo, Speaker, Legislative Assembly Dr Nirmal Singh, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Sat Sharma, Minister for Tourism, Tassaduq Hussain Mufti, Minister for Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries, Abdul Gani Kohli, Minister of State for Forest, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mir Zahoor Ahmed and Minister for Agriculture Muhammad Khalil Bandh expressed grief and shock over the killings extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Dr Karan Singh, senior congress leader has grieved over the killing of Bukhari and urged upon the Government to book the killers. Dr Singh sent his sympathy to bereaved family and relatives including his brother PDP Minister Basharat Bukhari.
National Conference (NC) President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed shock and grief over the assassination of veteran journalist. Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah sought a speedy probe into the killing. Meanwhile, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, senior leaders Abdul Rahim Rather, Muhammad Shafi Uri, Mubarak Gul, Mian Altaf Ahmed, Dr Bashir Ahmed Veeri, Ali Muhammad Dar, Muhammad Akbar Lone, Sakina Ittoo, Mir Saifullah, Shamima Firdous as well as all party legislators have expressed grief and shock over Bukhari’s demise and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) paid tributes to Bukhari. The meeting of the PDP’s Political Affairs Committee was held at the party head office at Srinagar and was presided over by party’s vice president Sartaj Madni. The PAC meeting was attended by Abdul Rahman Veeri, Nizam-ud-din Bhat, Mehboob Beg, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Ghulam Nabi Lone, General Secretary Mansoor Hussain Sohrawardy, etc.
CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, MLA Khansahib Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen and Congress MLA and Former Minister Ajaz Ahmad Khan have condemned the killing of Bukhari.
MLC and senior BJP leader Rajouri Vibodh Gupta along with other party workers condemned the killing of Army jawan Aurangzeb and expressed sympathies with his family.
While condemning killing of Bukhari, former Union Minister Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz said that the people of Kashmir are deeply shocked and astonished as to how three motorcycle-borne killers could commit this kind of crime within the premises of press colony in broad day light. “Since the most active militant outfits in the State have declared that they were not involved in the crime, the people of Kashmir rightly expect that the J&K Police will show its mettle and nab the killers, at the earliest”, he added
Condemning the killings, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President GA Mir described the incident as mindless, cowardly and shameful act on the part of attackers. He expressed solidarity with the family of Bukhari and his friends and relatives.
Jammu Kashmir Bachao Tehreek President and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil condemned the attack Bukhari and urged the State and Central Governments to enhance the security of all journalists in Jammu and Kashmir.
National Conference expressed shock and grief over the assassination of Bukhari. Provincial President Devender Singh Rana termed the killing as most barbaric, cowardice and inhuman act. Those who conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family included State Secretaries Surjeet Singh Slathia, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Syed Mushtaq Ahmed Shah Bukhari and Rattan Lal Gupta, Central Secretaries Rachpal Singh, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Javed Rana and Abdul Gani Malik, etc.

Roots in Kashmir expressed concern over the killing of the army man Aurangzeb and Bukhari. Speaking at the meeting, Rahul Mahanoori demanded immediate withdrawal of unilateral ceasefire, identify the killers of the soldier Aurangzeb and involve all the sections of the society to end this bloodshed.

Condemning the brutal killing of Bukhari, PDP Chief Coordinator Jammu Province Choudhary Abdul Hamid in a condolence meeting termed this a big loss to not only the media fraternity but the State in particular. The meeting was attended by General Secretaries Mehboob Iqbal, Ved Mahajan, Secretary Jatinder Bhat, Senior Leader Trilok Singh Bajwa and many others.
