JAMMU, June 26: Mata Ragnya Bhagwati (Kheer Bhawani) Asthapan Trust Logripora Pahalgam in South Kashmir district of Anantnag has expressed deep shock and anguish over the attack on Shiva temple in the area for second time in last 18 days.
The meeting said that the repeated attack on the temple has hurt the sentiments of the community members. Earlier, the temple was attacked on June 4 when its wooden pillars and joists were cut and bells, photographs, idols, buckets and puja items were stolen. These miscreants who attacked the temple on June 4 might have done more damage but they were spotted by the passers by.
The Trust performed hawan at holy Shrine on June 12 and it brought the entire issue in the notice of DC Anantnag on June 14 and also submitted a copy of the FIR to him in this regard. The delegation demanded protection of the temple besides establishment of security picket there.
The Trust also took serious exception to the role of local police which after arresting the culprits responsible for previous attack let them scot-free later without investigating the matter fully knowing that temple premises have been repeatedly attacked for last few years during and after the festival.
The Trust has demanded an inquiry in the matter and arrest of the culprits responsible for attack. It also urged the authorities to take immediate steps in recovering the ancient idol of Mata Ragnya Bhagwati which was removed from the temple spring and since then it is missing. The Trust also demanded that entire temple complex be fenced with chain link besides putting up a permanent police picket there.
