NEW DELHI, Dec 26: MP Rajya Sabha Gulam Ali Khatana today met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and discussed the present security situation, problems of drug trafficking and unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khatana submitted a charter of demands to the Union Home Secretary and demanded positive action on the same at the earliest. During meeting with the Home Secretary, the MP said that J&K is witnessing a new era of peace and tranquility after the neutering of Article 370. He said Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a new developmental push to the UT but there are certain areas which need personal and immediate intervention.
He said that our enemy country is frustrated by the present peace in the UT of J&K and has posed new challenges by pushing in drugs and arms, a threat well recognized by the Home Minister Amit Shah and serious efforts are also being put in to counter this menace.
“A proposal for putting up Gamma Scanners has already been put up by CRPF and I also recommend that at least 5 Gamma Scanners be put up at Qazigund, Anantnag, one on Rajouri-Poonch/Mughal Road, one at Ban Toll Plaza in district Jammu and two in district Kathua at Lakhanpur and Nagri-Parole,” he said, adding, this will greatly help in checking the smuggling of drugs and arms and ammunition.
Khatana further said that the youth of J&K is facing growing unemployment and needs a comprehensive employment package. Those already working on adhoc arrangements, daily wages, contractual are also on the roads. It would be prudent if the Government of India sanctions at least 20 new IRP/Border and JKP battalions so that unemployed youth could be given jobs and they should not fall in the hands of anti-social elements.
“The social media has become another tool for the enemy nation to mislead our youth and radicalize them. It is imperative that we further upgrade out security grid and form a special battalion titled “Information Warriors” to counter, track and nab the cyber warfare,” said the MP.
