Kharge, Rahul to hold meeting on J&K affairs at Delhi on Apr 4

JAMMU, Mar 28: All India Congress Committee (AICC) president, Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition (LOP) and former Congress president, Rahul Gandhi will hold a meeting on J&K affairs with the district heads and some other leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir at Delhi on April 4 while Congress Working Committee (CWC) session is going to be held at Ahmedabad in Gujarat on April 8-9.

Party sources told the Excelsior that all the district presidents of the Jammu and Kashmir led by JKPCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra besides some other leaders will attend the crucial meeting being held at All India Congress headquarters, Indira Bhawan, New Delhi on April 4, 2025. Over, 25 to 30 leaders from Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to attend the meeting.
Sources further said that during the meeting Kharge and Rahul Gandhi will take feedback from the Congress leaders from the JKUT over the party affairs in various regions, sub regions and districts besides political and security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
The AICC may also discuss the issue related to the strengthening of the party in various districts and steps to be taken in this direction. The meeting may also focus on the present law and order situation, and escalation in the incidents of terrorists activities in Kathua, Udhampur and other parts of the Jammu region.
JKPCC president, Tariq Hameed Karra when contacted disclosed that AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and LOP Rahul Gandhi as party’s country-wide exercise, will convene a meeting of district presidents from the Jammu and Kashmir on April 4. He stated that the meeting of 13 States have already been completed and remaining will be covered during coming days.
Karra further revealed that about 800 districts in the country are being covered under this exercise and the feedback will be taken from the district heads and the State heads about the party affairs and other activities besides overall law and order scenario in the respective States and the districts. The concerned district heads may project the prevailing situation in their respective areas during the meeting over J&K, the PCC chief added.
Replying to a question, Karra said the second phase of meeting will be held on April 3 while on April 4 , there will be the turn of Jammu and Kashmir. He said this meeting is not being held just over the escalation in the terrorists activities in Jammu region but the party high command may take feedback about the situation prevailing in their respective areas from the concerned district heads.
Sources said besides the JKPCC chief, Tariq Hameed Karra, AICC general secretary, Incharge J&K affairs of the party, Dr Naseer Hussain and AICC general secretary and LOP in J&K Legislative Assembly G A Mir may also attend this crucial meeting.
They said that newly appointed AICC Incharge J&K affairs of the party, Dr Naseer Hussain will pay his maiden visit to Jammu and Kashmir after April 10.
Meanwhile, next Congress Working Committee meeting/ session is being held at Ahmedabad on April 8-9. The top brass of the Congress party from all the states and UTs of the country will attend the CWC meeting.
JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that at least 50 members (CWC/AICC) from J&K including Tariq Hameed Karra, G A Mir, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram, Yogesh Sawhney, he himself and many others from J&K will participate in two day Congress Session. He said important resolutions like Jaipur Congress Session will be passed during the session.
Sharma further disclosed that new AICC I/C J&K Dr Naseer Hussain will visit J&K after CWC Session. It will be his first visit to J&K after being appointed as Incharge J&K affairs of the party, he added.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress president, Shaktisinh Gohil said that the extended CWC (Congress Working Committee) meeting of the party will be held at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial in Shahibaug on April 8 and the All India Congress Committee (AICC) session at the Sabarmati Riverfront on April 9.
He said all top national leaders of the Congress party will attend a special prayer meeting at the Sabarmati Ashram on the evening of April 8.
“Gujarat is privileged to host the AICC session and CWC meeting, as 2025 marks 100 years since Mahatma Gandhi was elected the Congress president and this is the 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Patel, the first GPCC president,” he added.
Gohil said that the CWC extended meeting will be held at 11.30am on April 8 at the Sardar Patel Memorial in Shahibaug, after which all top leaders of the party will attend a prayer meeting at the Sabarmati Ashram and a cultural programme will be organised later in the night.
“More than 2,000 delegates will attend the AICC Session at the Sabarmati Riverfront on April 9,” he said.
